This wedding scene, designed with the name of the newlyweds' daughter "Mozhu" (black bamboo), captures the essence of a Chinese landscape painting. The entire wedding becomes an open scroll, enveloping every guest and the newlyweds themselves. Bamboo, a symbol of high quality and evergreen in all seasons in oriental culture, takes center stage in this design.
The realization of this design utilizes the art of bamboo weaving and installation. Bamboo, considered a treasure in Chinese culture, is used in various forms, from bamboo rafts to bamboo slices for weaving. The flexibility of bamboo slices allows for the creation of beautiful curved shapes, while bamboo tubes can be arranged to form auspicious trees. This project pays tribute to the craftsmen who work with bamboo, showcasing its humanistic significance and oriental aesthetics.
The wedding scene covers an outdoor lawn area of approximately 800 square meters. It features a bamboo mountain background, a turquoise full moon stage, bamboo pieces installed on the river to create a complete space installation, and a small bamboo bridge. The tallest structure reaches a height of about 3.5 meters, with the longest device measuring approximately 16 meters.
Guests are encouraged to interact with the design by leaving their wishes on bamboo slips using Chinese-style paintbrushes. They can also pray near the bamboo trees, which symbolize longevity and peace. The dessert table even offers snacks made from bamboo tubes. At the end of the wedding, guests can take home their favorite bamboo products, further deepening their connection with this meaningful material.
The Bamboo Mountains River and Moon project began in May 2022 with conceptual and schematic design. After nearly a month of preparation and construction, it was unveiled on September 12, 2022, in Chaoyang District, Beijing, China.
This design is a testament to the collision of classical oriental aesthetics and modernity. By creating a wedding scene inspired by Chinese landscape painting, it sparks interest in traditional culture and showcases the skills of bamboo craftsmen. The Bamboo Mountains River and Moon design received the Iron A' Design Award in 2023, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative nature.
